I attended the University of Idaho, studying Civil Engineering, but graduating with a general degree and a minor in Spanish. While at the University, I was elected Student Body President and worked as a lobbyist representing the University to the Idaho State Legislature. I subsequently accepted a job as a speech writer and special assistant to Dirk Kempthorne, then governor of Idaho. I worked for Governor Kempthorne over a period of six years until my graduation from law school at Brigham Young University and the governor's appointment by President George W. Bush as U.S. Secretary of the Interior in 2006. I am now an Associate in the Dallas office of Jones Day, a large international law firm. Immediately prior to joining Jones Day, I served as a deputy city prosecutor in my hometown and also worked on behalf of abandoned, abused, or neglected children in southern Idaho as a guardian ad litem attorney. I am married and have three beautiful daughters, who are and will ever be my greatest achievement.

Also an arts fanatic, Troy plays tenor saxophone and received the Superior rating as a soloist in his state. His other interests include speech and drama clubs, newspaper and yearbook staffs, and sports videography and photography.
