Exeter, NH, Phillips Exeter Academy| College Plans: Princeton University |

| I’m from Exeter, New Hampshire,
although I’ve previously lived in a
number of other states. I attended
Phillips Exeter Academy for four
years, where I was elected to the
Cum Laude Society. I served as
Co-Head of the 196 year-old Daniel Webster Debating Society, Captain & Head of the Academic Team, Co-Head of Peer Tutoring, and as a Peer Counselor. I also competed on the Varsity Lacrosse, Indoor Track, Golf, and Water Polo Teams. I’ve acted in/cowritten/produced several films created by Madman Films, a production troupe we established at Exeter. I am interested in Asian studies—the intricacies and traditions of the region’s cultures and the complex issues that modern Asia must address: environmental quality, water stress, access to energy resources, and peaceful coexistence. The flexibility of the
Exeter curriculum has enabled me to pursue these interests; I plan to concentrate in Asian studies at the undergraduate level and beyond. |

Derry, NH, Pinkerton Academy| College Plans: Wellesley College |
|
| |
| Carolyn is captain of the math team, treasurer of the German club, and secretary of the Asian Explorations Club. Learning new languages is one of her passions, and in addition to German and Japanese, she hopes to dabble in Latin and Russian in college. She plans to pursue premedical studies in addition to majoring in German, but these plans are not set in stone whatsoever. In her free time, she reads fantasy novels, listens to foreign pop music, and donates blood. |

| First and foremost, I am a writer and a filmmaker. I have written and directed short films that have been viewed by over 12,000 people and presented at the New Hampshire High School Short Film Festival. For the past three years, I have been the director of Dover High School’s annual film festival. I am the New Media Director for the Tide, DHS’s student run newspaper. As New Media Director, I covered the 2008 presidential election, receiving press clearances to film news videos of a Barack Obama campaign speech and a Sarah Palin rally. I have been a practicing martial artist for the past eight years and have attained the rank of First Degree Black Belt in Shaolin Kenpo Karate. This fall, I will attend Wesleyan University, where I plan to major in Film Studies. |

Jeanette Wat
|
Exeter, NH, Phillips Exeter Academy| College Plans: Rice University |
|
| |
| As a kid, Jeanette loved to play musical chairs, partly because she liked the prizes (usually chocolate cakes), but mostly because she enjoyed figuring out her chances of winning from the length of the music. The mathematician in her led her to qualify twice for the USA Math Olympiad and complete graduate-level studies in Abstract Algebra at the University of Chicago. She has also been fascinated by science and research, attending the Research Science Institute and becoming a Semifinalist in both the Siemens and Intel Science Competitions. As Vice President of Chemistry Club and Book Award Manager, she enjoys organizing activities to help others learn science. In community service, she loves volunteering at the Spanish Fiesta Festival and International Day. A National Merit and Cum Laude Scholar, she tutors others in a variety of subjects. In her spare time, she swims, plays piano, and spends time with friends and family. |

| I'm fascinated by the workings of the body and am intrigued by the many questions left for the biological sciences to answer. Helping others through medicine, traveling around the world to experience different cultures, and delving into the realm of community service are my ambitions. Music is my passion—I enjoy fusing Western piano and Indian dance with vocal, flute, and carnatic Veena (a 1.3 meter-long south Indian stringed instrument made from a single branch of a jack fruit tree). I'm a professional dancer of the Indian classical dance “Bharathanatyam” and enjoy introducing western and carnatic (south Indian) music to audiences across the world. I love helping others. Over the years, I have created supply drives, traveled to villages across the globe to donate materials, founded a nonprofit organization, and launched a day to honor kids worldwide. I enjoy making a difference and encouraging others to do the same! |

Hopkinton, NH, Hopkinton High School| College Plans: Harvard University |

| Curiosity has funneled my energy into a desire to explore a variety of academics and experiences. I am captivated by everything from the elegant sense of calculus-based physics to insights gained from philosophy. Modern dance is one of my greatest passions, as it provides an outlet for creativity and an artistic study of humanity. My interest in international culture has fueled my talent in Scottish Highland dance and bag piping. I am captain of Hopkinton’s math team and a four-year class president. I have been honored as a NH Scholar of the Month, AP Scholar, and National Merit Finalist, and have received a Dartmouth Book Award and Rensselaer Medal Award. I have always believed that collaboration and community involvement are the keys to building humane environments, and am therefore a member of Hopkinton’s community service organization, a bread-baker for the Friendly Kitchen, and a volunteer performer in nursing homes. |

Harrison M.. Potter

Bedford, NH, Bedford High School| College Plans: Tufts University |

| In a world of men, sometimes it takes a wizard to get the job done. That’s where Harry Potter comes in. When not defeating dragons and dark lords, he spends his time reading history and anything that bears the name of Henry Kissinger. When not making potions and dealing with goblins, he is an avid member of the FIRST robotics team, on which he has served as CEO and Tri-Captain. When not staving off demons and dementors, he can be found helping, as a member of the first senior class, to establish his high school and write opinion articles for local papers. When not playing Quidditch and wizard chess, he enjoys watching Boston sports, playing video games, and dabbling in dance, numismatics, and international relations. He would, in addition to being an Auror, like to work in the State Department. |
